George Austin

The genealogy of the Austin Family begins with George Austin, maternal grandfather of Erick Karl Weigel Jr.  He was born on April 25, 1932 in Hawley, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  He married Joan Marie Bergman.  He died on September 29, 1998 in Eureka, Lincoln County, Montana.

George Austin came from a very large family.  There are several family members that have also participated in genealogical research of this Austin line.  The information for this Austin Family Tree in a product of the research of the other researchers as well as Erick Karl Weigel Jr..

To date, the origin of our line of Austin ancestry can be traced back to Westerly, Rhode Island where James Monroe Austin (b. 05 OCT 1816, d. 18 MAR 1899) was born.  This region of Rhode Island is the point of origin for the majority of the Austins living in the United States today, however the James Monroe Austin is a brick wall with respect to genealogical research since his connection to the established genealogies cannot be made at this time.  Records do prove his existence as well as the data associated with his birth, therefore he was either overlooked, adopted, or a coincidental presence in the same location as the other Austins.

James M. Austin married Eleanor Schoonover (b 03 APR 1824, d. 23 NOV 1918), who was descended from a large and prominent family on July 13, 1851.  She was born in Honesdale, Wayne County, Pennsylvania and died in Bloomfied, Essex County, New Jersey.  James M. and Eleanore had nine children, four daughters and five sons.  The daughters were:  Emma L., Margaret (Maggie), Lizzie, and Mame.  The sons were W(?), Willie, Wallace, and (Charles)Erastus (b. JUN 1860, d. 1913).  James M. died in Indian Orchard, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.

(Charles) Erastus Austin married Mary Amelia Vicinus (b. OCT 1872, d. 1958) on December 24, 1889 in Hawley, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  Mary A. was born in Kimbles, Pennsylvania and died in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  Erastus and Mary A had four children, two daughters and two sons.  The daughters were Myrtle and Emma Katherine.  The sons were James Daniel and Charles Erastus (b. 13 JUN 1891, d. 28 MAY 1966).  (Charles) Erastus Austin died in Hawley, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.

Charles Erastus Austin was born in White Mills, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  He married Martha Josephine Wheele (b. 08 APR 1899, d. JUL 1986) on July 16, 1918.  She was born in Pennsylvania and died in Milanville, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  Charles E. and Martha J. had eighteen children, nine daughters and nine sons.  The daughters were: Barbara, Martha E., Paula K., Eleanore L., Mary J., Grace L., Mildred, Audrey H., and Anne F.  The sons were:  Bruce D., John P., Charles J., Howard D., Daniel, Edward W., Blair C., William E., and George Austin (grandfather of Erick Karl Weigel Jr.).
